Sean Joy Rosario Cabanig who is 23 is originally from Los Angeles and studies at CSULB. She is currently a 5th year undergraduate trying to get her BFA in Metals and Jewelry. This is her last semester. Sean Joy likes reading, gaming and cats. She also wants to keep herself active in metal work in her free time. She didn’t always want to be in metal work, but changed ever since she got to work with metals and see what it’s like. She says it’s important to experiment for any artist since it helps find what works and what doesn’t.
Sean Joy uses metals like silver and copper in her work to create jewelry or small sculptures. They are usually small in size and have a smooth texture. Her work isn’t very vibrant due to them being made by metals, but they do shine. Also, since she makes jewelry and representative sculptures, they often take a curvy, round, and sometimes abstract shape like with the ladle and with the male genitalia which I did not get a picture of, but think is very interesting. Most of her work is very symmetric too.
The ideas Sean Joy conveys in her work is mostly personal and based on her experiences and emotions. When she feels something or sees something she likes, she uses that to brainstorm new ideas for her work. Sean Joy also conveys her humor to her work. She has jewelry like the choker to express her sadness and feelings of being trapped or stuck. She can find inspiration in the most random things like the ladle and with the male genitalia, which was probably her humor being reflected through her work.
I feel like Sean Joy Rosario Cabanig is a very bold and creative artist. he likes to take risks and is very expressive of her work. I like how she finds a way to share her feelings in her art and kinda gives a hint of what her personality and life is like. I also like how her art is useful since it is wearable. I also appreciate her taking the time to experiment with her work and to not rush it. She does a great job with her experimental work as it gives her a more edgy vibe.
